Remembering a role and its objective
- The game announces which role was remembered, without announcing the Amnesiac’s player identity.
- Patch 3.2.4 explicitly allows remembering unique Town roles; use the eligible graveyard choices shown by the current client.
- Your eventual alignment can change dramatically depending on which graveyard role you choose.
Choose a faction you can still win with
Early game
Survival matters more than forcing an identity. Watch which factions are gaining control and which graveyard roles are likely to become available without drawing unnecessary attention to yourself.
Mid game
Choose based on the board, not on role prestige. Remembering a strong Town role when Town has already lost vote control may be worse than selecting a simpler role aligned with the faction positioned to win.
Endgame
Do not wait so long that no viable role remains or the game ends before your new win condition can be completed. The best memory balances strength, timing and whether the remaining lobby can support the role.
Claiming before and after remembering
Before remembering, a role claim does not promise which side you will eventually join. After remembering, decide what information your new team needs. The announcement names the remembered role, not your player number; do not confuse that announcement with publicly confirming yourself.
Check the eligible memory, not the confidence
Check which graveyard roles the client makes eligible, whether a claimed memory was available that night, and whether the public announcement agrees. Unique Town roles are not categorically excluded. A role announcement does not identify the player who remembered it.
Important interactions
- Janitor can hide a dead role from Town, making the available memory pool harder for everyone except informed roles to judge.
- Executioner/Jester or other Neutral flips can offer dramatically different win conditions than a Town memory.
- Role-list pressure changes after the Amnesiac remembers because a previously dead role effectively returns to the living board.
Decision example: a useful role on the losing side
If Town has five confirmed votes and the graveyard offers a usable investigative role, remembering Town may convert you into a safely aligned contributor. In a lobby where Mafia already controls the day, the same choice may be strategically hopeless. The Amnesiac should read the board before choosing the identity.
Common mistakes
- Remembering the flashiest role instead of the role with the best realistic win condition.
- Waiting until the remaining lobby makes every available option unwinnable.
- Claiming a future memory that the graveyard or uniqueness rules do not permit.
