Three cleans and private death information
- You can clean three times per game; choose the deaths whose missing information matters most.
- A cleaning matters only if the target dies; coordinate the intended death with the faction’s kill plan.
- A cleaned death removes public role and will information that Town normally uses to close claim space.
- The Janitor learns the cleaned player’s role and will, creating valuable private information for Mafia claims.
Hide the death Town needs to solve
Early game
Coordinate cleaning with kills that would otherwise confirm an important role. Cleaning a claimed Investigator or protective role can keep multiple fake claims alive; cleaning a low-information player may accomplish little.
Mid game
Use the hidden role carefully. If Mafia suddenly produces a perfect claim for a role that disappeared in a clean, Town may infer where the information came from. Spread the value across several day decisions instead.
Endgame
A final cleaning can preserve claim ambiguity at the exact moment Town needs the graveyard to solve the last slots. Consider whether the clean matters more than keeping the Janitor’s own cover believable.
Avoid revealing knowledge from the cleaned will
A Janitor fake claim should not depend on information only a cleaner could know. Build a timeline that makes sense from public data and save the cleaned player’s private details for Mafia coordination.
Keep an unknown occupied graveyard slot
Town should track which roles could have died in a clean and keep those possibilities open in claim-space analysis. Medium information can sometimes recover details that the public death screen lost.
Important interactions
- Medium may hear from a cleaned dead player and restore information the Janitor tried to hide.
- Forger manipulates the public will while Janitor removes it; the two effects serve different misinformation plans.
- Consigliere exact-role knowledge can help Mafia decide which death is most valuable to clean.
Decision example: a clean that hides a fresh result
A publicly claimed Investigator dies and is cleaned before posting the newest result. Town loses both the role flip and the last will, keeping several claim groups open. If a Mafia teammate instantly claims Investigator with private details from the cleaned will, however, the advantage can become suspiciously transparent.
Common mistakes
- Cleaning deaths whose role was already publicly confirmed beyond doubt.
- Immediately claiming the cleaned role in a way that exposes access to hidden information.
- Forgetting how each clean changes the number of plausible role slots for Mafia teammates.
