Primary jobMaintain Mafia killing tempo while presenting a public story that survives the role list and investigative pressure

Orders, Basic defense and Sheriff innocence

  • Godfather has Basic defense. An attack stronger than Basic can still kill the Godfather.
  • If a Mafioso is alive, the Mafioso normally performs the ordered attack.
  • The Godfather appears innocent to Sheriff checks in the classic rules, making a single Sheriff result insufficient to clear the role.

Keep kills and support actions on one plan

Early game

Choose kills that damage Town’s information network rather than simply removing the loudest player. A confirmed Lookout, a credible Jailor or a player connecting several claims can be more dangerous than an isolated accuser.

Mid game

Coordinate kill choice with support roles. A Bootlegger block, Blackmailer silence or Janitor clean should serve the same day plan so Mafia is not spending several actions on unrelated goals.

Endgame

Count parity before every attack. Sometimes the correct kill is the confirmed vote, not the strongest investigator, because removing that vote guarantees control of the next day.

An innocent result is not a safe cover

The Godfather needs a public role that explains survival and target history without relying on an “innocent Sheriff result” as proof. Overplaying Sheriff immunity is a common mistake because experienced Town knows the exception.

Check the claim beyond the Sheriff result

Town should not hard-clear a player from an innocent Sheriff result when Godfather remains possible. Compare the claim with visits, role-list slots, kill priorities and the Mafia promotion chain.

Important interactions

  • Sheriff can receive an innocent result on the Godfather in classic rules.
  • Mafioso performs the faction attack when present, separating kill execution from Godfather identity.
  • Consigliere and support roles can identify or disable the Town player most likely to stop the ordered kill.

Decision example: godfather target choice

Town has a confirmed Mayor and an Investigator whose newest result is still disputed. If killing the Mayor turns the next day into Mafia vote parity, that is often stronger than killing the Investigator and leaving Town with decisive voting power. Godfather play is about the board after the kill, not the prestige of the target.

Common mistakes

  • Killing only loud accusers instead of the players generating verifiable information.
  • Assuming Sheriff innocence makes the public claim safe forever.
  • Ignoring parity and wasting a kill on a target whose death does not change Town’s next vote.
