🧠 Town of Salem strategy

Town of Salem Sheriff Results

What suspicious and innocent results can mean, including common exceptions.

Quick answer: Sheriff feedback is alignment pressure, not a complete role reveal. Suspicious results deserve a trial; innocent results still have exceptions and should not create automatic hard-clears.

Preserve the exact feedback

Write the target and suspicious/innocent result exactly. Do not turn “innocent” into “Town” in the will because the distinction matters when roles with detection exceptions remain alive.

Know the Godfather exception

The classic official role reference notes that Godfather can appear innocent to Sheriff. That means an innocent result cannot by itself remove Godfather from the target’s possible identities.

Consider framing before overcommitting

Framer can corrupt investigative evidence around a target. A suspicious result still matters, but Town should compare it with visits, claim space and whether Mafia had a reason to frame that player.

Resolve transports and control

If Transporter or Witch redirected the Sheriff, the result may belong to a different player than the intended target. Reconstruct target movement before accusing the claimant or the checked player of lying.

Use suspicious results to focus the trial

The best Sheriff post is a starting point: result, target, then request the full claim. If the claim is mechanically weak as well, the case strengthens. If the claim is strongly verified, investigate framing/redirection rather than ignoring the conflict.

Why “innocent” is not a clear

Player 9 is innocent to Sheriff but claims a role that cannot fit the remaining role list. Do not discard the role-list contradiction. Ask whether Godfather or another detection exception remains possible, then compare visitor evidence and the claim’s chronology.

Common mistakes

  • Writing “confirmed Town” after one innocent check.
  • Ignoring Godfather while Mafia Killing is still possible.
  • Using framing as an excuse to ignore every suspicious result.
  • Failing to resolve Transporter before assigning the result.

Important innocent-result exceptions

Godfather is not the only reason an evil player may appear innocent. Neutral Evil and Neutral Benign roles, several Neutral Chaos roles, Werewolf on a non-full-moon night, Juggernaut, and a Coven role holding the Necronomicon require care. A disguised Mafia member can also appear under another investigative identity. Record the mode, night and possible deception before treating the feedback as alignment proof.
