Quick answer: Reuse the ability of a dead Town member by creating a one-use zombie and directing that ability at a new target.

Primary jobTurn the Town graveyard into extra investigative, protective or control actions without wasting scarce dead-role resources

Eligible corpses and one-use abilities

  • Each eligible dead Town role can be used as a resource once before that zombie rots.
  • The value of the Retributionist changes with the graveyard; your options expand as useful Town roles die.
  • Your action inherits the logic and limitations of the dead role you choose to use.

Reanimation is temporary

A corpse supplies its ability for one night, with feedback passed to you; the dead player does not return to the living roster. A used corpse cannot be reused. Choose the corpse and its target as two separate decisions, and record both in the will.

Spend the graveyard resource that matters now

Early game

Before strong Town roles die, the Retributionist may have little to do. Use that quiet period to track which dead roles will become useful later and which targets would maximize each one-shot effect.

Mid game

Choose dead abilities based on the current bottleneck. If Town lacks confirmation, an investigative zombie may be better than a speculative protective action; if parity is near, protection or control may matter more than another clue.

Endgame

Treat each remaining zombie like a consumable tactical card. Do not spend the last useful action on a low-information target if the same ability could decide the next vote or prevent a kill.

Record corpse, recipient and feedback

A Retributionist will should name the dead role used and the target chosen. The claim is easier to test when the reused ability produces visible feedback that matches the graveyard.

Check eligibility and previous corpse use

Check that the claimed dead role actually existed, was eligible and had not already been consumed. Impossible reuse of the same graveyard resource is a strong contradiction.

Important interactions

  • Medium also benefits from the graveyard, but information from dead chat and reused abilities should not be conflated.
  • Janitor can hide the identity of a dead role, reducing public certainty about which zombie options should exist.
  • Transporter can redirect a reused visiting ability, so a strange result may require resolving transport before accusing the Retributionist.

Decision example: retributionist target choice

A dead Sheriff is available while two players are counterclaiming the same slot. Reusing the Sheriff on one claimant creates a concrete test. Spending that zombie on an already-confirmed Town member would consume a unique resource without changing any decision.

Common mistakes

  • Using the first available dead role merely because an action is possible.
  • Forgetting which graveyard resource has already been consumed.
  • Claiming a reused action without naming the dead role that supplied it.
