Blocking an action and changing its target

A missing result does not identify the cause. An ordinary roleblock prevents a susceptible ability; control changes where a targetable ability goes. Transportation exchanges the recipients of actions aimed at a pair of players. Keep these effects separate when reconstructing a night.

Effects to distinguish in a night log
Effect Typical source What to record
Ordinary roleblock Tavern Keeper or Bootlegger Night, blocked player, received feedback and whether that role is immune.
Control Witch or Coven Leader Controlled player, intended target and any known forced destination.
Transportation Transporter Both members of the swapped pair, supported by their feedback.
Jailing Jailor The jailed player cannot perform their normal night action; jailing is not just an ordinary visit.
Duel Pirate Who was challenged and what duel feedback they received; do not assume ordinary roleblock behavior.

Roleblock immunity is an exception worth naming

A roleblock claim should be checked against the specific ability. Serial Killer can kill an ordinary blocker and the intended victim on the same night; Cautious mode spares the blocker. Jailing and a Pirate duel can still prevent the normal Serial Killer attack. A role being immune to one kind of interruption does not establish that every interruption is ineffective.

Names in older guides differ: Tavern Keeper was called Escort, and Bootlegger was called Consort. Patch 3.3.11 also corrected control and roleblock immunity interactions, including Retributionist control immunity. An old result chart should not overrule the current role’s restrictions.

A control report with two targets

Suppose Player 6 is an Investigator who selected Player 8 but reports being controlled. If other evidence establishes a forced destination of Player 11, the investigative result must be considered against 11. Record “selected 8; controlled; result received” before adding the inferred destination. Claiming an exact redirect without evidence would turn a useful raw report into an unsupported accusation.

Verify the effect without clearing the alignment

A real block can come from either faction’s blocker. A player accurately acknowledging a transport verifies one relationship, not every later claim by the Transporter. Compare a result with another player’s independently recorded night log and with the roles permitted by the lobby. When several redirects overlap, retain both the original choices and the observed feedback instead of inventing an action order.
