Quick answer: Control one player at night and redirect that player’s targetable action.
Alignment / classNeutral Evil
Primary jobSurvive until Town loses by using other roles’ abilities to create deaths, false results and confusion

A controlled player and a forced destination

  • Targetable investigative, support and killing actions can be redirected.
  • The controlled player receives feedback that they were controlled in classic rules.
  • The Witch can force some players to target themselves when the action allows it.

Choose the action with the greatest effect

Early game

Control players whose role is likely to produce meaningful feedback. Redirecting an investigator can corrupt a result; redirecting a killer can create pressure without revealing your own visit pattern as directly as a personal attack.

Mid game

Track which targets know they were controlled. Reusing the same victim may create a coalition of confirmed control feedback that narrows your identity, so vary the plan unless a repeated control wins immediately.

Endgame

At low player counts, a single controlled kill or protection can decide parity. Identify which role’s action has the greatest leverage rather than controlling the most suspicious player by habit.

Keep the cover consistent with control reports

Your cover must survive control feedback. A fake role claiming to visit one target every night becomes weak if several players know their actions were redirected at times that match your own visitor pattern.

Connect control feedback to who benefited

Town should collect control feedback chronologically and compare it with who benefited from each redirected action. One control is ambiguous; a sequence that repeatedly protects the same suspicious player is much more informative.

Important interactions

  • Vigilante or other killing actions can be redirected, turning Town firepower into a weapon.
  • Investigator/Sheriff checks can be pointed at unintended targets and produce results that appear to contradict the claimant’s will.
  • Keep the transported pair separate from the controlled player and forced target. Compare the actual feedback before drawing a conclusion about a complex night.

Decision example: redirecting an announced Vigilante shot

A Vigilante has publicly said they intend to shoot a Mafia suspect. Redirecting that shot to a confirmed Town player can create two layers of damage: the death itself and the Vigilante’s guilt consequence. The best Witch actions exploit the exact mechanics of the controlled role.

Common mistakes

  • Controlling random players without knowing whether their ability is targetable.
  • Creating a repeated control pattern that lets Town infer who benefits every night.
  • Building a fake will that ignores the victims who know they were controlled.
