Vampire

Convert players and build a hidden faction over multiple nights.

NeutralNeutral ChaosTown of Salem role guide
Quick answer: The Vampire faction votes at night to convert a target; the youngest Vampire performs the visit and the faction must wait between conversions.

The youngest visitor and conversion cooldown

  • Successful conversion expands the hidden Vampire team instead of producing a normal kill.
  • The youngest Vampire is the one who physically visits the chosen target.
  • A conversion cooldown prevents the faction from converting every night.

Convert a vote that can survive the next day

Early game

Choose converts who can survive and influence future days. Converting a player already likely to be executed wastes the cooldown; converting a credible Town voice can give the faction both a new vote and a believable public identity.

Mid game

Coordinate claims after conversion. A newly converted player must reconcile any old Town results with the new faction goal without suddenly changing behavior so sharply that the conversion becomes obvious.

Endgame

When Vampire votes approach control, calculate whether converting, eliminating by day, or preserving a useful Town cover creates the quickest forced win. The cooldown makes every missed conversion window expensive.

A former Town history can remain your cover

Vampires retain the public history they had before conversion, so a good cover often continues that story. Sudden abandonment of a previously detailed will can reveal that the player’s incentives changed.

Past truthful results do not exclude conversion

Town should watch for abrupt shifts after nights when a conversion was possible: changed vote partnerships, abandoned investigations, or a formerly trusted player protecting a new suspicious ally.

Important interactions

  • Vampire Hunter is specifically designed to identify and kill Vampires in classic rules.
  • Transporter can redirect the youngest Vampire’s visit and create unexpected conversion outcomes.
  • Town investigative claims made before conversion may still have been truthful, so old accuracy does not guarantee current alignment.

Decision example: vampire target choice

A confirmed-looking support player survives the day and is unlikely to be checked again. Converting that player can be more valuable than targeting a suspicious quiet slot, because the faction gains a trusted vote. The danger is the player’s prior will: any unexplained change after conversion can expose the hidden team.

Common mistakes

  • Converting players who are already doomed by the next trial.
  • Failing to coordinate how converted players will explain old Town claims.
  • Forgetting which Vampire is the youngest visiting member when reading Lookout evidence.
