Town of Salem Role Claims: A Practical Verification Framework

A role-by-role checklist of the evidence to request, the limits of that evidence and the exceptions that can make a plausible claim look false.

A role claim sets a limit on what the speaker could know. Use this Town of Salem role claims reference to identify the evidence to request; use the claim guide when you need help presenting your own role.

What each common claim should contain

Claim verification reference
Claim Ask for What it does not prove
Sheriff Night, target and innocent/suspicious feedback An innocent result does not prove Town alignment.
Investigator Original result group and the correct ruleset One matching role is not an exact identification.
Lookout Watched target, named visitors and any overflow notice The list is capped at three identities and can be altered by Disguiser.
Doctor / Bodyguard Protection targets and actual feedback A quiet night does not confirm a save.
Spy Bug target and feedback, plus separate faction visit lists A recipient of a Mafia visit can itself be Mafia.
Transporter Both players for every swap An alleged swap without corroboration is still only a claim.
Tavern Keeper Roleblock targets and responses Surviving the visit does not exclude a cautious Serial Killer.
Retributionist Corpse used, living recipient and ability result A dead Town role is not returned permanently to play.
Mayor The public reveal when available Typing “Mayor” is not the same as revealing.

Distinguish missing detail from impossibility

A nervous Doctor may forget a night number. That is missing detail which can be requested. A claim with no possible role-list slot is a different problem, but only after cleaned or forged deaths and flexible slots have been accounted for. Do not assign the same confidence to both.

Ask without supplying a safe answer

“Who did you visit on Night 2?” preserves the player’s own account. “You visited 7, right?” feeds them the detail you hoped to test. Collect the independent log first, then compare it with the reported visit.

Example: an apparently confirmed visitor

A Lookout names Player 8 at the victim’s house. Player 8 claims a passive role. That discrepancy deserves attention, but Disguiser is an alternate explanation for the identity in the Lookout report. Check whether Mafia deception is possible and whether a second result supports the accusation before calling it impossible.
